Fire Evacuation Locations

In the event of a building wide fire alarm activation, Residents must evacuate the building immediately in a calm and orderly manner. Please exit via the nearest emergency exit and proceed to the designated evacuation location. To ensure your safety, residents may not remain in the hallways, courtyards, or areas immediately adjacent to the building during a potential fire emergency. Residents must also keep all roadways clear to provide clear access for the El Paso Fire Department in the event that they are dispatched to the scene.

Once officials have determined it is safe to return to the building, an and all clear will be issued and residents will be allowed to reenter the building.

Grills

Housing and Residence Life provides grills that are available for all residents. The grills are located throughout the complexes. Residents are also allowed to bring small grills, but you may not grill in covered stairwells or walkways. They may only be used out and away from the buildings. Grills may not be stored inside the resident's apartment. Residents are responsible for cleaning the Housing and Residence Life provided grills after each use. 

Bicycles

Bicycle racks are located in several areas of Miner Village/Miner Heights/Miner Canyon for the convenience of residents. A heavy chain and lock are recommended as protection from bike theft. Bicycles must be registered with the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Police Department. Residents are encouraged to use bike racks for storage. However, if a resident decides to store a bike in the unit, it may not impede exit from the unit in any way. Bicycles, or any personal items, may not be stored in stairwells or handrails, and may not otherwise interfere with emergency evacuation. The Department of Housing and Residence Life may authorize staff or Police to cut locking mechanisms on bicycles stored in public place which may interfere with safety in the event of an evacuation. Each summer all bikes left on the properties of Housing and Residence Life will be removed and donated. Residents are responsible for taking bikes in May to avoid the loss of property.

Electronic Access System

Housing and Residence Life offers increased security through the use of an electronic access system. The exterior pedestrian gates are locked 24 hours a day. Each gate is equipped with a card reader (Miner Village/Miner Heights/Miner Canyon) You will raise your Miner Gold Card to the reader for the gate to unlock. Only Miner Village/Miner Heights/Miner Canyon residents are allowed access to their property only; therefore, it is important not to admit non-residents without an escort. This system offers security for all residents. If you should lose your Miner Gold card, replace it immediately. Because your Miner Gold Card can also be used for other services on campus, it is important that you should always carry it with you. Residents are not allowed to leave gates opened or propped. 

All pedestrian gates are monitored by motion-sensor cameras. Residents and visitors who prop the gates open will be identified by the cameras and will be held accountable via the student discipline process. It is the responsibility of the resident or guest entering or exiting the gate to assure that the gate is closed. Residents and guests may not enter Miner Village/Miner Heights by jumping the gates or the fence. 

Laundry Facilities

For the convenience of residents, Miner Village, Miner Heights, and Miner Canyon. are equipped with washers and dryers. Miner Village provides four laundry rooms located in Sacramento, Chisos, Del Norte, and Hueco Halls. The laundry rooms provided by Miner Heights are located in Cottonwood (contains 2 laundry rooms), Mesquite and Ocotillo. Miner Canyon has its laundry rooms in the 2nd and 3rd floor of Copper Hall and Whispering Springs Hall. Residents are expected to stay with their laundry while it is washing and drying and should remove laundry promptly after the cycle has been completed. Housing and Residence Life is not responsible for lost items due to lack of presence during or completion of a washing/drying cycle.

Parking

All residents that have a vehicle must purchase a parking permit through Parking and Transportation Services prior to bringing a car to any on-campus lot, including residential lots. Only residents who have valid parking permits will have access to drive-in gates at their residential property only.

For Safety and Security reasons, only residents of the specific complex have access to the parking lot. To enter, they must present their Student ID at the gate. Housing and Residence Life staff is not permitted to open the gate simply by pressing the call button, so please have your Miner Gold Card with you at all times.

• Food Deliveries
  If a student is expecting a delivery (Pizza, flowers, groceries, etc), the  delivery person must wait for the student outside the gated area. They will not be given access to the parking lots.
• Visitor Parking
  There is no visitor parking available at any of our three properties. Notify your visitors that they must find parking outside the Residence Halls area.

Reminder: Intentional damage to Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é property is a violation of policy and can result in restitution, disciplinary action and/or legal action. Residents are encouraged to report any act of vandalism to Housing and Residence Life. Breaking or destroying parking gates constitutes vandalism. 

Recreation

There is a sand volleyball pit located near Davis Hall (Miner Village) and a basketball court next to Ocotillo (Miner Heights). The courts operate on a first-come basis and are available to all residents. To protect the study environment of residents who live next to the courts, the court is only open from 9 A.M. – Midnight daily. For basketball courts, ping-pong, foosball, and other recreational activities, Memorial Gym is located adjacent to Miner Village. Equipment is available for checkout to all UTEP students through the reception desk in the Memorial Gym lobby.

Traffic Signs

Traffic signs, as well as state and city directional or informational signs, are not allowed in students apartments since possession of these items is illegal without the appropriate proof of purchase. These signs will be turned over to the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Police Department.
