Keys Policy
KEYS
Unit keys are issued to each resident and must be returned upon request. As a safety precaution, students should keep their doors locked (including apartment and bedroom doors) at all times. Residents are encouraged to have their keys with them at all times to avoid lockout fees. If a resident needs to ask for assistance in entering their unit between the hours of 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., residents should call their respective property office. Lock-outs between the hours of 5 P.M. and 8 A.M., of the next day, require contacting the Resident Assistant on Duty. All residents will be required to show ID to be assisted with a lock-out. A lockout charge will be added to the residents account. The charge amount varies depending on time of day and are as follows: 8:00 A.M-11:59P.M- $20, 12:00 A.M. - 7:59 A.M-$40.
Lost keys will also result in charges; Front door key-$55, Mail Key- $35. Excessive lock-outs by residents may result in disciplinary action. When a unit key is lost or stolen, security of the unit for the residents become a priority. The resident whose key is lost, or not returned at the time of check out, will be responsible for the cost of a lock change and the cost of a new key. Residents are encouraged to protect personal possessions and those of other residents living in the unit by maintaining the security of room keys. For the safety and security of students living in Miner Village and Miner Heights, residents are required to immediately report missing keys or to the Housing and Residence Life Offices and to immediately turn in any Miner Village/Miner Heights keys found on the premises or elsewhere Miner Canyon residents must inform HRL staff if their Miner Gold Card (student ID) is lost, and must replace it immediately. MMiner Village, and Miner Heights unit keys are issued to the assigned occupant of that unit only, and the Miner Gold Card is programmed for the assigned occupant of the unit only in Miner Canyon. Lending a key or the Miner Gold Card for gate entrance or room access to any other persons is not permitted. Residents should not allow a friend or guest to borrow or otherwise use their ID card or issued mail or room keys. For example, a resident may not allow their guest to go to their apartment to take a belonging without the resident accompanying the guest. Only the resident should be in possession of their keys. It is a violation of state statutes and university regulations to duplicate a key to any door of a unit or bedroom.
