Research Environment
The UTEP School of Pharmacy (SOP) has obtained significant resources to support instruction and research for our students, faculty, and staff.
The UTEP SOP houses a new IV admixtures teaching lab. The space is used to teach students sterile compounding in a simulated hospital setting. Here at the UTEP SOP, we provide our students with realistic, extensive, and diverse opportunities to not just learn the science, or basic knowledge behind pharmacy practice, but the skills needed for practical application.
The UTEP SOP has also established a research core facility that houses state-of-the art equipment commonly used in pharmaceutical research. Available equipment for UTEP SOP Faculty, students, and collaborators includes:
- Bechmann Ultra Centrifuge
- Walters HPLC (High Performance liquid chromatography)
- Flow Cytometer
- Shimadzu UV spectrometer
- Malvern Zeta Sizer -Particle size analysis
- Fume hoods
- - 80 Freezer
On Aug. 26, 2017, the SOP hosted an open house, which show cased many exciting building developments. The open house tours highlighted the IV admixtures teaching lab and research core, as well as a new Student Success Center, a Collaboration Center, a Compounding Teaching Laboratory, and five pharmaceutical sciences research laboratories. Since the open house, the SOP has completed the development of five practical lab spaces. The SOP looks forward to updates in additional learning spaces in the upcoming months.
