Faculty Development Leave Program
The purpose of Faculty Development Leave is to enable faculty members to engage in study, research, writing, field observation, and similar projects to improve public higher education. Before applying, faculty should consult with their respective chair and dean regarding their intention to submit a proposal for development leave.
The proposal development leave packet requires an updated CV and a proposal. Proposals should not exceed five pages, not including the appendix. The proposal should include the following:
- an overview of the proposed effort and significance;
- a proposed plan and activities, including approach and/or methods;
- how the leave will enhance your development;
- anticipated benefits to the department or program, college or school, and university;
- alignment with the strategic advantages, goals, or initiatives in the university strategic plan;
- description of collaborators, mentors, or sponsors, if applicable;
- expected outcomes and contributions to the established body of work in the field, e.g., publications, exhibitions, research proposals, or new program or course development; and a
- letter of invitation from the host (if applicable).
Review and Selection Timeline
January 10: Application deadline
January 11-17: Department chair review of applicants via Faculty Success reporting system
January 18-31: Dean review of applicants via Faculty Success reporting system
February 3-7: FDL committee application review period
February 10: FDL committee recommendation due to Provost
February 17: Notification of selection sent to deans and department chairs
February 19: Notification of selection sent to awardees

Faculty Incentive Program for Fellowship Recipients
A Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é faculty member who is awarded a fellowship and who meets the conditions outlined may elect to remain appointed at the faculty member's full nine-month academic salary for the duration of the approved fellowship.

InSPIRE offers communities of practice and professional development opportunities in a variety of areas including teaching and learning, scholarship, mentorship, and engagement.

Faculty and staff may pursue Coursera Career Academy certificates at no cost to them. These certificates complement many areas of study and provide skills useful in a variety of disciplines.

ACUE Microcredentials
A partnership with the Association of College and Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Educators (ACUE) has introduced a cohort-based program based on evidence-based practices that enhances the instructional skills shown to best promote student motivation, learning, and persistence. This effort forms part of the ongoing commitment to invest in the faculty in our mission to provide students with access to excellent educational opportunities.

The Faculty Fellow positions are designed to provide leadership and administrative experience, as well as mentorship, to faculty members seeking to explore leadership roles in higher education administration. The faculty offer perspective, guidance, and vision to the administrative offices that they serve. Faculty Fellows work closely with campus leaders on projects to promote UTEP’s mission, goals, and strategic plan.

The UTEP Curriculum Edge Fellows collaborate with academic departments to promote the adoption of Edge practices and assist in the development of plans for scaling and documenting these initiatives across campus. Their responsibilities will include facilitating workshops, working with departments and college administrators to identify integration and support needs, and identifying exemplars for media campaigns to disseminate Edge initiatives across campus.
