Educational technology service projects that take place in the MAKERSPACE focus on themes that have been deemed relevant to the mission of the MAKERSPACE, as well as the El Paso region students and teachers, and provide a mechanism for unifying some of the numerous activities taking place at the MAKERSPACE into a braided narrative. The MAKERSPACE supports implementing the following educational technology service projects within the El Paso region:

• Service Project 1: Sustainable Design.  This service project theme focuses on integrating the field of sustainable design into PreK-20 STEM education within the El Paso region.  Development of curriculum and supports focuses on renewable energy, green architecture, recyclable materials, desktop manufacturing, and other subfields of sustainable design.
• Service Project 2: Wearable Technology. 21st-century learners are increasingly utilizing augmented reality and other wearable technologies to increase the information and knowledge they have about the world they live in.  This service project theme involves development of curriculum and supports that focus on how wearable technology can be used to improve the lives of El Paso region students and teachers.
• Service Project 3: Printable Electronics.  3D printing technology is facilitating the design of increasingly complex and miniaturized electronics, which increases the options available to electronics designers.  This service project theme involves development of curriculum and supports for helping students and teachers within the El Paso region teach STEM and integrated content lessons that involve designing and manufacturing printable electronics.
• Service Project 4: 3-D Digital Landscapes. Early learners are increasingly exploring the boundaries between the real-world and digital technology, both for entertainment and educational purposes.  This service project theme involves the development of curriculum and supports that focus on how digital technology can be incorporated into early childhood classrooms to promote developmentally appropriate play experiences.
