First-Year Experience
To support students’ transition to the college environment, UTEP offers a Seminar in Critical Inquiry core course, UNIV 1301, designed to engage first-year students intellectually to further develop their knowledge and skills as well as encourage their engagement with the UTEP community. The course incorporates collaborative and active learning, peer support and engagement with public issues that challenge students to get involved as scholars and engaged members of the community. UNIV 1301 helps students explore their identity and interests, develop successful skills and habits, and make close connections to peers and faculty.
A team consisting of faculty, staff, tutors, and peer leaders, have developed strategic programming and a culture of care. Through this close interaction with faculty, staff and peers, and engagement with campus resources, events and opportunities, UNIV 1301 students develop a sense of belonging to the UTEP community and begin recognizing their UTEP Edge.
