What is Human Capital Management?
Human Capital Management (HCM) uses advanced practices that enable employers to manage their employees more effectively and efficiently.HCM considers employees as high potential business assets whose value can be harnessed and maximized through state of the art recruiting, selection, training, development, succession planning, performance management, compliance, communication, and compensation.
ACADEMY COMPONENTS
1. The HCM Certificate/Minor ProgramWith the 12-hour certificate program, students fulfill the requirement of a minor. In these courses, students have access to the mylearning@ADP platform, which includes ADP’s online learning modules, that ADP has shared with the College as part of the Academy partnership. Through these courses, students obtain an understanding of how modern organizations successfully manage their investments in human capital.
2. Mentorship Program
Academy students are paired with human resource employees in leadership roles from ADP and other partner organizations. Activities undertaken as part of the mentorship include mock interviews, resume reviews, job shadowing, joint attendance at a seminar or conference, informal sessions, and job and internship search support.
3. Professional Development Portfolio
Academy members attend monthly events that include speaker engagements at Hunt College, corporate site visits, and networking events.

Academy Goals
- Offer state-of-the-art training on systems used by leading HCM companies in the world
- Improve the knowledge and skills of UTEP graduates in the HCM area
- Provide opportunities to network and engage with professionals in the field
- Enhance internship and employment opportunities for Academy members
Eligibility Requirements
All UTEP students, regardless of college or major, may apply to the HCM Academy at UTEP's Woody L. Hunt College of Business.
- The HCM Certificate/Minor must be declared as part of your certificate/minor requirement. You can do this with the Hunt College academic advising team.
- A 2.0 GPA is required.
