Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Understanding Your SAP Status
After grades have been posted each semester/term, you can view your SAP status within the Financial Aid and Scholarships module in the , under the SAP tab. Below is a description of each possible SAP status.
Eligible for Aid |
You are meeting all SAP requirements and can receive financial aid. You should continue to do well in your classes to make sure you remain eligible for financial aid. |
Warning Semester |
You failed to meet either the GPA and/or completion rate SAP requirements. You continue to be eligible for financial aid for one semester, but must return to good standing by the end of the warning semester to avoid losing your financial aid eligibility in the future. |
Not Eligible for Aid |
You failed to meet either the GPA and/or completion rate SAP requirements after a warning semester, and, unfortunately, you are no longer eligible for financial aid at this time. However, if you have an extenuating circumstance, you may appeal. Complete a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Form, and upload it along with required documentation to , no later than the beginning of finals week to determine your eligibility for the next term. Note: You can also regain your financial aid eligibility by continuing to attend classes without using financial aid until you meet SAP requirements again. |
Terminated |
Regrettably, you are no longer meeting SAP because you have exceeded or will exceed the maximum number of credits to complete your degree or you have exhausted the maximum number of appeals allowed. In order to continue to fund your education, you may look for alternative sources of funding, such as a private educational loan. |
Probation/Appeal Approved |
Your SAP appeal has been approved and your financial aid eligibility has been reinstated, however, you must consistently meet the conditions of your academic plan to continue to receive financial aid. |
Appeal Denied |
Your SAP appeal has been denied and you are not eligible for financial aid this semester. Note: You can also regain your financial aid eligibility by continuing to attend classes without using financial aid until you meet SAP requirements again. |
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy
We know you are working toward an important milestone: a degree from the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) - and that receiving financial aid is essential to help you achieve this goal. To remain eligible for financial aid, students must continue making progress toward their degree.
Federal regulations, HEA Sec. 484(c), §668.16, 668.34, require all schools participating in Title IV federal financial aid programs to have a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy that meets the requirements detailed below. SAP requirements apply to all college coursework taken previously, regardless of whether or not the student received financial aid during that time. This includes coursework transferred to UTEP from another institution. Students’ SAP will be evaluated at the end of each term which includes fall, spring, and summer. In accordance with federal regulations, financial aid will only be applied to courses included in a student’s program of study (degree). Any courses a student chooses to take outside of the program of study (degree) will not receive financial aid.
