The Minor in Rhetoric and Writing Studies (RWS) helps students become proficient writers in preparation for graduate school or the workplace.  Students with this minor will learn to write a variety of texts, including analytical essays, research reports, technical documents, and multimodal projects.   They will also become more sensitive to how the written language works both grammatically and stylistically.  By being able to analyze different writing situations, they will be able to effectively shape their texts to meet the demands of different audiences.

Students who minor in Rhetoric and Writing Studies are often planning careers in law, communications, and business.  It is the ideal minor for students who wish to gain practical writing experience that will help them communicate successfully in whatever field they enter after college.

Why should I minor in Rhetoric and Writing Studies (RWS)?

No matter what field you decide to pursue, you will need to be able to communicate effectively, not just verbally, but also in writing. Strong writing skills are a must for almost any profession.

Students who have minored in Rhetoric and Writing Studies have been accepted into graduate schools to study disciplines such as Law, Political Science, and Medicine.  Some of our students have  been accepted into the top law schools in the country, including Harvard, the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Michigan, and the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas.  Other students have pursued graduate degrees in Rhetoric and Writing Studies, Educational Leadership, and Communications.

The minor in Rhetoric and Writing Studies will also help you enter the workforce immediately after graduation.  Students with this minor have gone on to careers in Public Relations, Advertising, Grant Writing, and Journalism. Other students have become successful business managers, medical professionals, and engineers.  Because good communication skills are so important in the workplace, this minor will help you advance in almost any career!
