Welcome to the EEB Program
Established in the summer of 2011, the doctoral program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso brought together faculty in these areas to recruit highly motivated students ready to engage their abilities and complete a Ph.D. in this important field of biological science. In spring of 2020, an undergraduate component was added to this program as well via the introduction of a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
The Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is located in a bi-national metropolitan area of more than 2 million people, surrounded in every direction by biodiverse Chihuahuan Desert habitats. All the amenities of a large city are available, and the open desert beckons beyond its boundaries. However, the EEB program’s research extends beyond the Chihuahuan Desert and the United States-Mexico Borderlands as far across the globe as the rainforests of Africa and the Arctic tundra. Within these extreme environments are the harbingers of global change and the tripwires of biodiversity decline.
Lastly, our greatest unique asset is our Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é itself, which strives to become the first national research university with a 21st century demographic. Our doctoral program Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is poised to have its own adaptive radiation within this niche, offering exciting career-enhancing opportunities for its students and graduates that reflect the modern research areas and technology applications of this dynamic and increasingly relevant field of study.
Sincerely,
