Welcome from the Chair
If you're new to UTEP, like me, you were likely drawn to its unique combination of open admissions, high-quality instruction, and R1 research capabilities. UTEP offers everyone the opportunity to learn while engaging in world-class research. These educational opportunities, combined with the recreational attractions of West Texas, create a powerful draw. My wife and I hope our teenage twins will decide to become Miners!
For those who have been here for a while, you already know our department boasts excellent teachers, students, staff, and faculty conducting high-impact interdisciplinary research in areas ranging from cancer prevention to rattlesnake biology. I am particularly proud of the department’s unique scientific resources. The Indio Mountains Research Station, the UTEP biodiversity collection, and the Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC) leverage the unique environment of West Texas to offer one-of-a-kind experiential learning. I am thrilled to be part of such a fascinating and unique department.
