The Interdisciplinary Research Building (IDRB) will be an outstanding climate of support and advancement of access, excellence, and impact for UTEP and their partners in interdisciplinary research and training.
To enable access, excellence, and impact for the UTEP research community, the IDRB supports and advances:
unique interdisciplinary research and large scale programs that provide new and novel ways of asking questions and developing interdisciplinary approaches to addressing current and future challenges,
faculty, graduate and undergraduate preparation in team-based research and community service bettering today, tomorrow and beyond,
a model for the integration of industry, community, government, and academic researchers, one which other institutions may emulate,
a tool for the recruitment and support of world-class researchers, and
the overall competitiveness of UTEP students.
The IDRB, its staff, and occupants will:
Be responsive to current and future interdisciplinary research (IDR) programs, teams, and centers.
Maintain flexibility and adaptability in lab and building design to support dynamic research priorities and trends.
Plan and implement designs that will promote reconfigurable, collaborative work, whether spaces for research, meeting, storage, or other functional needs, and the relationships between them.
Provide core facilities and shared resources that are essential for key IDR areas.
Include advanced technology and spaces for meeting, instruction, and conferences.
Include open space for collegial interaction.
Include conversational pieces from art to technology and others displays highlighting UTEP.
Create a space, outside and inside, that is attractive and welcoming to visitors.
Utilize the Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principle statements for the purposes of planning, design, and occupancy decisions.
