Lisa Smith
Lisa Smith, Associate Professor of Practice, currently serves as head of the Dance Program in the Department of Theatre and Dance. She has been a member of the dance faculty at UTEP since 2002 and currently teaches Ballet, Performance, Dance Appreciation, Pedagogy, World Dance, and Dances of Mexico and Spain. Lisa danced as a soloist with several companies here and abroad and her performing credits include many classical roles as well as parts in contemporary works. A prolific choreographer, she has created over 40 dance works including Carmen, The Firebird, and Pachuco Zoot: A Tale of Identity here at the Wise Theatre. She holds a BA in Anthropology from the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at Austin and earned her MFA here at UTEP in the Department of Creative Writing. Her interests currently include exploring choreographic form and themes related to the Texas/ Mexico border region. In 2016 Lisa received the College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Faculty in the Arts award.
