Thesis: The Gender Wage Gap

Internships: While completing my MA, no I did not. I did work on several research projects. I did complete an internship with the US Census Bureau after I left UTEP.

Post MA in Sociology

PhD Program: I am working on my PhD from Texas A&M Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é in Sociology, with an emphasis on Demography. I do not recall the name of my funding package, but it did include tuition, stipend, and other benefits.

Publications: I co-authored a book chapter with Rogelio Saenz, PhD, on the Hispanic Paradox (Epidemiological Paradox).

Jobs: After leaving UTEP, I have worked several jobs, including interim director of the Border Contraceptive Access Project, Statistician for the US Census Bureau, I have taught undergraduates at Texas A&M Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é, Sam Houston State Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é, and also at UTEP. I also interned at a non-profit that assists abused children and also at a bingo parlor. I am currently employed as a Research Associate at UTEP, where I assess and evaluate several student success programs.

How has the MA in Sociology program prepared you? Without the encouragement (and patience) of my thesis committee, I would certainly not have been able to complete my MA, nor work in fields that use elements of Sociology. Their encouragement and sharing of their knowledge allowed me to pursue a career in higher education, one I never considered prior to applying to the Sociology Graduate Program.

Organization memberships: I was a member of organizations like American Sociological Association, Southern Demographic Association, Population Association of America, but I am no longer an active member in any of these organizations.

Future Goals: My goals are to finish my PhD and find innovative ways to assist UTEP students and citizens of the El Paso region reach their academic potential.
