MA Program
Thesis Advisor: Dr. Sara Grineski
Thesis: Stigma towards HIV positive people in El Paso
Internships: I was not allowed to take part in any official internships due to my visa regulations, however I volunteered and taught yoga in the NGO where I have conducted my research "International AIDS empowerment"
Post MA in Sociology
Jobs: Project Coordinator "Drown Stories" (Slovenia) - social worker with refugees and asylum seekers, also organization of cultural initiative with the purpose of deconstructing stigma towards asylum seekers in Slovenia. Currently I am looking for a job in my home country Russia, however it is a bit complicated due to political situation in which most of NGOs were closed and civil society representatives are escaping the country.
How has the MA in Sociology program prepared you? A lot! It was very exciting to be an international student coming from the other continent in such a diverse environment as El Paso. Our seminars were very interesting and taught me to challenge myself all the time throughout two years of my MA studies. I was also a teaching assistant in the department, which was very challenging but very interesting and useful experience.
Organization memberships: I am a vice chair of a global, human rights organization Youth Coalition for Sexual and Reproductive Rights.
Future Goals: Probably continue my education, but at the same time I am really enjoying working professionally on the grass root level. I wish I can open my own NGO, however it is not possible in my home country at the current moment due to political oppression from the government.
