Post MA in Sociology
PhD Program: I am currently a PhD student at Texas A&M university in the department of sociology. My major area of concentration is crime, law and deviance and my secondary area of concentration is social psychology. I am currently funded by the department of sociology as a graduate assistant. I am a graduate student instructor of criminology and introduction to sociology. I have completed my course work, and currently working toward becoming ABD (all but dissertation). I study life course criminology: I am interested in ecological resilience, and the development of such among peer relationships in adults with incarcerated parents.
How has the MA in Sociology program prepared you? My MA has prepared me for what I am doing now by laying the crucial foundation that I needed to thrive in academia. I felt that I came more prepared than the other students who began the PhD program with only a BA. I've been able to mentor others because of my experiences in the MA program at UTEP.

Hanging out with my cohort! I didn't realize then that my cohort and the others before and after mine would become my professional colleagues in the future. We grew as a group, and still continue to do so today.
