Curtis Tredway, Ph.D.
Music Education
Dr. Curtis Tredway is a product of the School District of Escambia County, having attended Holm Elementary, Brentwood Middle School, and Woodham High School. He holds the degree of Bachelor of Music Education from The Florida State Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é. He also holds the Master of Music Education and the Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education degrees from the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Tredway taught in the public schools of Florida for six years, including positions at Woodham High School and Tate High School. Dr. Tredway holds the rank of Associate Professor of Music at the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso. He is the former Associate Director of Bands, having directed the UTEP Symphonic Band and the Marching Band for 17 years. Under his direction, the marching band performed NFL halftimes for the Denver Broncos and the Dallas Cowboys, the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho, the Texas Bowl in Houston, TX, and the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, AL. A performance at the Coca-Cola Christmas Parade in Mexico City, Mexico drew an estimated audience of over 1 million spectators. While Director of the UTEP Pep Band he conducted at NCAA tournaments in Palo Alto, CA and San Jose, CA. He has also taught classes in instrumental pedagogy and marching band techniques. Currently he teaches Music Theory Fundamentals, Commercial Music Arranging and Composing, Elementary Music Education, Secondary Music Education, and supervises student teachers. He also teaches numerous graduate classes in music education. A highly sought after arranger, he has written over 200 charts for marching band, in addition to those for jazz band, wind ensemble, and synthesizer ensemble. His marching band arrangements have been performed on nationally televised broadcasts of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (NBC), the Disney Christmas Day Parade (ABC) and the Rose Bowl Parade (NBC). High school and college marching bands across the country have played his music. Dr. Tredway is also an active clinician and adjudicator. His professional affiliations include Music Educators National Conference, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha, Tau Beta Sigma, Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Bandmasters Association.
