UTEP Symphony Orchestra
The UTEP Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Bohuslav Rattay, is a full symphonic orchestra including strings, winds, brass, and percussion. The ensemble is open to all UTEP students, regardless of major. All students interested in performing with the UTEP Symphony Orchestra must audition for chair placement at the beginning of each semester. The ensemble is available to be taken for zero credit in certain circumstances, allowing students to perform with the UTEP Symphony Orchestra without needing to pay tuition for the course.
Rehearsals take place Monday through Thursday from 3:00-4:20 pm, with full rehearsals Mondays and Wednesdays, and strings-only rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Members of the orchestra are required to attend one additional sectional per week, to be scheduled outside of regular class time. The orchestra performs 3 to 4 concerts per semester, including standard orchestral repertoire, popular music, and collaborations with the UTEP Choral Area. All members of the orchestra are eligible for a financial service award at the conclusion of each semester.
UTEP Symphony Orchestra audition music can be found HERE. Orchestra auditions are usually held on the first Tuesday of each semester. Rehearsals usually begin on the first Wednesday of the semester. If you are registered for Orchestra and have questions about the audition process, please contact Professor Bohuslav Rattay, or the professor of your instrument.
