Program Applications
The Law School Preparation Institute’s College Summer Program is for UTEP undergraduate students who have not already received a bachelor’s degree and who plan to graduate from UTEP.
Please submit the appropriate application as determined by the eligibility requirements. Visit the LSPI College Summer Program page for more information about the college summer programs.
NEW STUDENT APPLICANTS:
- Eligible applicants are UTEP undergraduate students who have earned at least 12 college credits from UTEP, were registered UTEP students during Fall 2023, and have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. (Consistent with law school admission practices, all grades earned from any institution of higher education for college credit that go towards the first bachelor’s degree will be included in the weighted average calculation of the overall GPA. This includes grades from: early college, dual credit, semester abroad courses (if a grade was given), and repeated courses. Grades earned in remedial classes are not included.)
- Phase I and II (June 10 - August 7): Apply if you have only one summer left before you graduate.
- Phase I only (June 10 - July 9): Apply if you have at least two summers left before you graduate. Freshmen must select this option.
- To advance from Phase I to Phase II, even in the same summer, students must successfully complete Phase I, as determined by LSPI faculty.
RETURNING STUDENT APPLICANTS:
- Eligible applicants are returning LSPI students who have successfully completed Phase I in a previous summer, as determined by LSPI faculty, and have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Program Structure:
The LSPI extends across two phases with an academic year sandwiched in between. Phase I is held from early June to early July (UTEP's Summer I schedule), and Phase II takes place from early July to early August (UTEP's Summer II schedule). While some students take both phases in the same summer, it is advisable to apply to the LSPI College Summer Program early in your undergraduate career so you can get the full benefit of the Institute across two summers and two academic years.
Admissions Process:
Admission to the Law School Preparation Institute is competitive and undertaken through a committee process. Each member of the committee makes an independent judgment concerning each applicant and the committee then meets to discuss each applicant's record and to reach consensus about admission decisions.
