MA in Rhetoric and Writing Studies
In this program, students examine the theoretical and practical elements of rhetoric. Courses in rhetorical theory, multimodal writing, professional and technical writing, and persuasion give students the tools to analyze rhetorical contexts, use cutting-edge writing technologies, and produce effective print and digital texts for different purposes and audiences. Other courses focus on specific rhetorical topics, including grant writing, visual rhetorical communication, community-based writing, and transnational writing contexts. This degree offers students the opportunity to enhance the writing they do on the job, prepare for careers as professional/technical writers, teach writing, or enter a PhD program in Rhetoric and Composition.
Additionally, this degree will give teachers dual-credit certification. After obtaining this degree, teachers will be qualified to teach dual-credit classes in secondary schools.
The four courses in the online graduate Professional and Technical Writing certificate program--Editing, Grant Writing, Professional Writing, and Technical Writing--all count as credit toward the M.A. in Rhetoric and Writing Studies.
