Hearing Conservation
The hearing conservation program provides information for the protection of UTEP employees from long term hearing loss associated with noise levels in the workplace. All employees whose noise exposure equals or exceeds an 8-hour time weighted average of 85 decibels need to be enrolled in a hearing conservation program. If enrolled, employees will be required to wear hearing protection devices, as needed to decrease noise exposure levels.
Confined Spaces
The purpose of UTEP's Confined Space Entry Program is to set procedures that will ensure workers safe entry into confined spaces to perform routine tasks associated with their employment. This procedure is designed to provide safety requirements in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Confined
Space Standard, 1910.146 and assist UTEP in achieving the overall goal of a safer work place.
why is animal allergy awareness important?
When working with animals it is important to be aware of the risk of developing allergies from the animals you work with. Animal-related allergies are one of the most significant health hazards faced by laboratory animal workers.
If you develop any allergy symptoms please contact Environmental Health and Safety (915) 747- 7162.
Respiratory Protection Program
The purpose of the Respiratory Protection Program is to ensure the protection of all UTEP personnel from respiratory hazards through the proper use of approved respirators. Job-specific respirators are recommended by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). Procedures apply to all UTEP faculty, students, and staff. All employees required to wear a respirator that has a tight-fitting face piece must be properly fit tested.
