CS Department present at ICPCÂ
For the first time, UTEP participated in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), which is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming competition in the world. ICPC is an algorithmic programming contest for college students, where teams of three represent their universities and work to solve complex real-world problems. The ICPC competition fosters collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
This year, the Department of Computer Science at UTEP was represented by three teams that competed in the Regional Competition at UT Dallas on November 16, 2024. This regional contest, which drew over 40 teams from Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, offered UTEP’s teams the opportunity to challenge themselves and gain invaluable experience for next year’s competition.
The training and logistics were organized by the Coding Interview Club (CIC), which recruited three teams to represent the university. These teams participated in weekly training sessions designed to enhance problem-solving skills, refine programming strategies, and familiarize them with the ICPC format. The sessions were led by CIC’s officers, Jorge Garcia, Maximiliano Uribe, and Daniel Reyes, all of whom are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in computer science.
Stay tuned, as the CS department and CIC will continue team preparation and training in the Spring Semester.
