Proposal Guidelines
Proposals should be written in a language understandable by individuals outside your area of expertise, while maintaining the rigor of the project’s discipline. All application packets are reviewed by a multidisciplinary evaluation committee.
Completed as a Team
All upload documents (except the unofficial transcript) must use the MS Word submission files provided for your planning. Students will copy/paste information from the mentor/student form into the online application. The mentoring compact must be converted to a PDF for upload. Supporting images should be referenced (Figure #) and titled in a separate file with figure #:
- Define any acronyms the first time they are used
- Font: 10 - 12 point
- File type: PDF (save as PDF to upload)

Project Mentor(s) Information
The primary faculty advisor (instructor of the RSRC course) must provide their contact information. Primary mentors must have a full-time faculty appointment in order to be the instructor of record for an RSRC section.
Project Abstract (500 Words)
In this portion of the submission form the faculty mentor provides a concise description of the project including:
- Project Title
- Background of the proposed project, including the theoretical framework (if applicable) in which the project is grounded
- Overall project objectives and/or research questions
The project abstract should be written in a language understandable by individuals outside your area of expertise, while maintaining the rigor of the project’s discipline. Acronyms should be clearly defined. All application packets are reviewed by a multidisciplinary evaluation committee. Supporting images must fit in a single letter-sized page with their descriptions. These images would be in a separate one-page PDF document for upload into the Figures Document field of the application. The Figures Document is OPTIONAL.

Project Mentor Profile Form
The primary faculty advisor (instructor of the RSRC course) must provide recent information regarding their research activity. This information will help us understand their research activity and possibly provide additional support opportunities.
This form will be uploaded to the online application for each student you are mentoring.

Mentoring Plan Agreement
In this section, the faculty mentor and student mentee will negotiate and agree on (including but not limited to):
- Mentee skills development objectives
- Communication plan(s)/meeting(s)
- Expectations of each other
- Outcomes/deliverables/timeline of milestones

Mentee Self-Evaluation
The student/mentee will complete this form prior to meeting with their mentor in order to establish their strengths, weaknesses, and skills to develop during the mentoring period. A copy of this form should be shared with your research mentor when preparing the mentoring agreement.

Student Personal Statement (600 Words)
The student personal statement should address the following:
- Why do you want to participate in the proposed research project?
- What prior academic courses and/or experiences have prepared you for the proposed project?
- What are your future academic and career plans?
- How will this experience benefit you?
