FAQ's
When will this program start?
This program will start January 21, 2025.
How do I know if my job qualifies as a clinical social work position?
The board considers a position eligible for LCSW supervision if you spend at least four hours per week assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health or substance use issues using DSM-5-TR criteria. Formal diagnoses are not always necessary, as this task often falls to physicians, psychiatrists, or independently licensed mental health professionals in many settings. If you are applying diagnostic skills or using screening tools in your work with clients, you meet the requirements.
What if I work part-time?
If you work part-time, you must work at least 15 hours per week to complete supervision within 48 months. Part-time employees require one hour of supervision for every 40 hours worked, typically amounting to 2-3 supervision hours per month. To qualify for the licensing exam, a total of 3,000 work hours is required.
How will supervision be conducted?
Supervision will be virtual and will be scheduled once members are accepted into this program and supervision times have been coordinated. Supervision sessions will happen on a weekly basis and will be in a group setting of 3 members.
What is a typical group like?
In group supervision, members typically share cases or ethical dilemmas from their work and receive feedback from both the supervisor and peers. We also focus on understanding the DSM-5, therapeutic modalities, medications, and strategies for approaching the LCSW exam. My goal is to help supervisees grow as clinicians while equipping them to pass the exam. Additionally, we explore macro and mezzo issues and their relevance to individual clients, ensuring a well-rounded clinical perspective.
I got my BSW at UTEP but received my MSW from a different Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é, can I still apply?
Yes, you would still be able to apply (as a UTEP alumni) as long as you are an LMSW in the State of Texas.
