Title IX Bulletin
The Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is committed to maintaining a learning and working environment that is free from discrimination based on sex in accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded educational programs or activities.
Title IX protects students, employees, and third parties within the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é’s control, including visitors and applicants for admission or employment, from all forms of sex discrimination, including sexual harassment and acts of sexual violence. Title IX prohibits institutions from excluding, separating, denying benefits, or otherwise treating individuals differently on the basis of sex. Sex-based discrimination is prohibited at UTEP both by law and by Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é and UT System policies.
In accordance with Texas Education Code § 51 et seq. (“SB 212”), all UTEP employees who, in the course and scope of their employment, witness or receive information regarding an incident reasonably believed to constitute sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking, and which is alleged to have been committed by or against a person who was a UTEP student or employee at the time of the incident, must promptly report all relevant information of the incident to UTEP’s Title IX Coordinator or a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. An employee who fails to report will be subject to termination, and possible criminal liability.
In addition, Section VI, Chapter 3 of the UTEP Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP) requires Responsible Employees to “promptly report” “all known information” of any “sexual misconduct” incident to the Title IX Coordinator or a Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

To report a concern to the Title IX Coordinator and/or Deputy Title IX Coordinator, please submit a report or formal complaint via the . You may also email your concern to the Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The filing of a formal complaint will begin a grievance process that will include support services and, possibly, an investigation. Also, the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é will take reasonable steps to ensure there is no retaliation against the parties or any other participants in the investigation, or in any other part of the grievance process.
