Francisco Poblano, Associate Vice President for Technology Support, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from The Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in 1996. He has over 24 years of experience in the Information Technology field, to include certifications from global leading tech companies such as Microsoft and Cisco.
Mr. Poblano started his professional career in UTEP as a Software Systems Specialist to handle maintenance and support of technology in Undergraduate Learning Center (UGLC), which at the time, was a new building with the latest innovative technology for classroom instruction and large-scale events. He went on to implement new initiatives such as the campus-wide student print solution, increased access for students to UTEP’s software via virtual apps/desktops, campus-wide adoption of a single classroom response system and the creation of the Technology Support Center.
In his current position, he provides leadership and strategic planning for the Directors of Support Services, and Learning Environments. Mr. Poblano is responsible for an annual budget of $5.4M, which in part is used to manage campus-wide academic software license agreements, refresh technology in the classrooms, replace computers in academic computer labs, and provide access/support for the institution's Learning Management System among other initiatives.
During his professional career, he has worked on building a stronger connection to academic units thru the promotion of learning technologies and the support of professional development opportunities for faculty.
