EL PASO, Texas – The Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso‘s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) has announced its schedule of courses and lectures for the summer 2021 session that run from fun and familiar to a new live lecture series that promises to stimulate the mind.
OLLI membership is open to anyone age 50 and older. The OLLI summer is available online, and prospective students can register May 10 through 28. Classes will be conducted from June 7 through July 16.
OLLI organizers have supplemented their popular slate of arts and culture courses with three different lecture series that will promote current events, unique museums and local authors. Each series will involve guest speakers whose presentations will cover a variety of topics, personal stories, or take attendees on virtual tours of interesting places such as the Spam Museum in Austin, Minnesota, and the War Eagles Museum in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
The diverse courses in the summer catalog will allow students to “travel” along the Alsatian Wine Route in France, delve into 19th century French Impressionism and experience the beginnings of abstract art in the 20th century. Special guests from the Smithsonian Institution will talk about the museum’s ongoing exhibit on Chicano Graphics.
The OLLI annual membership fee is $30 per person or $50 for two from the same household. That membership is valid through August 2021. The registration fee for the six-week summer session is $35 and students can participate in as many of the classes as they desire.
The program will offer technical support to those who need it to attend the virtual sessions via Zoom. OLLI activities will be offered online to support the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é’s COVID-19 health and safety directives.
Lynn Provenzano, OLLI executive director, said this summer’s curriculum offers a flexible schedule. Course lengths will range from a single lecture to two to six weeks. The program’s goal is to provide options for students who want to remain engaged and connected.
“As we see local activities opening and travel starting to build, we want to give OLLI members an opportunity to keep what they love available to them,” Provenzano said.
