Dr. Hilda Ontiveros Arrieta
Director
Dr. Hilda Ontiveros Arrieta is an El Paso native and a professor of Women’s Studies, where she teaches courses on women's health, Chicana and Black feminism, feminist theory and methods, and global feminisms.
She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from UTEP, focusing on educational policy, finance, law, and curriculum renewal in both K-12 and higher education. She also holds a Master of Arts in Latin American and Border Studies with a concentration in political science and history, as well as a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration in Higher Education. Additionally, she studied in the Medico Cirujano (General Surgery, M.D.) program at the Institute for Biomedical Sciences at UACJ, specializing in women's health, fertility medicine, and women’s health issues along the U.S.-Mexico border and throughout Latin America. Her undergraduate studies were in Chicana/o Studies and Microbiology.
Dr. Ontiveros’ research interests include basic-needs insecurity on campus, feminist praxis, critical pedagogy, curriculum development for Latino students, educational policy and its impact on Latino and other minority students, the social determinants of education, multicultural and culturally responsive curriculum, contemporary feminist issues, masculinities and policymaking, and global women’s health.
She currently serves as the Director of Women's Studies and is entering her 20th year at UTEP.
