Professor of History
My research interests are fascists and antifascists, women and gender, comparative and transnational history, and modern Latin America. My books include Counterrevolution in Argentina, 1900-1932: The Argentine Patriotic League (Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Nebraska Press, 1986; Spanish ed. 2003); Las derechas: The Extreme Right in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, 1890-1939 (Stanford Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Press, 1999; Spanish ed. 2005); Crossing Borders, Claiming a Nation: A History of Argentine Jewish Women, 1880-1955 (Duke Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Press, 2010; Spanish ed. 2018). I co-edited (with Kathleen M. Blee) Women of the Right: Comparisons and Interplay across Borders (Penn State Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Press, 2012) and (with Ronald H. Dolkart) The Argentine Right: Its History and Intellectual Origins, 1910 to the Present (Scholarly Resources, 1993; expanded Spanish ed. 2001). My articles and book chapters have appeared in U.S., Latin American, British, Canadian, and Israeli publications. I have received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, American Council of Learned Societies, Fulbright, UTEP, and other institutions, as well as UTEP’s Outstanding Faculty Award in the Humanities and Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses on South America and women, gender, and Jews in modern Latin America. At the graduate level I also offer courses on global fascism, antifascism, and populism.
