Dr. Paul Edison
Associate Professor of History
Paul Edison received his Ph.D. from Columbia Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é in 1999, and teaches courses in world history, European history, and the history of science and empire. His research explores the sciences in France and Mexico, and the emergence of scientific discourses about “Latin America.” His work engages such issues as patrimony, race, and nation in transatlantic perspectives. He has published an article on French expeditionary science in Mexico during the 1860s in French Historical Studies. His book Latinizing America: The French Scientific Study of Mexico, 1820-1920 is forthcoming from Duke Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Press. He is the recipient of an Extending the Reach: Faculty Research Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities. His current research focuses on French medicine in Mexico.
