Dr. Leslie Waters is a historian of twentieth century Central and Eastern Europe. Her research focuses on moments of historical rupture: how border and regime changes affect societies. She received her PhD from UCLA, and her first book was published by Rochester Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é Press in 2020. Dr. Waters is managing editor of and President of the Hungarian Studies Association. Her current project, “Barcelona ’92: The New Europe at the Olympic Games,” analyzes the role of the 1992 Summer Olympics in integrating post-communist Eastern Europe into liberal international politics and the global capitalist economy. Her work has been funded by the Fulbright Association, Mellon Foundation, and the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies. Dr. Waters offers courses on European history, borderlands history, human rights, and genocide.
