PhD in Rhetoric and Composition - Our Students
Building a Community of Scholars
Students in the Rhetoric and Composition program at UTEP strive for a community atmosphere, collaborating and supporting each other in their work as well as finding time to meet informally outside of the university. Students in our program have formed a close-knit community of developing scholars. They run a student chapter of the Rhetoric Society of America, through which they have participated in community service projects and coordinated an annual Spring Symposium, bringing in speakers such as Bill-Hart Davidson, Stuart Blythe, Michelle Hall Kells, and Stacey Pigg. The Rhetoric and Composition program has hosted other speakers that include Victor Villanueva, Jan Swearingen, Cindy Selfe, Duane Roen, Andrea Lunsford, Jeff Grabill, and Paul and Aya Matsuda, All of our speakers spend time meeting and mentoring doctoral students.
