Ms. Elvira Carrizal-Dukes
Lecturer
Elvira Carrizal-Dukes earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in film directing with honors from Columbia Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é in New York City where she was a FOCUS (Filmmakers of Color United in Spirit) Fellow. Her short thesis film “Mariposa” is a winner of the Jury Award at the International Latino Film Festival San Francisco.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Minnesota—Twin Cities with a double major in journalism and Chicano Studies and a minor in theatre arts. In Minneapolis she wrote her published play “Father’s Shadow/ Sombra del Padre,” winner of the Kennedy Center/ American College Theatre Festival Si TV Playwriting Award and Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Fellowship.
She teaches courses in Chicano Cinema and Theatre. Elvira is an El Paso native raised in New Mexico
