Air Force funds research grant for Computational Chemistry and Physics Applications

Associate Professor of science at The Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso, Shirley Moore has been awarded $599,478 by Iowa State Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é, for a project entitled, A Co-design Approach for Advances in Software and Hardware (CoDAASH), funded by the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR).
According to Moore, graduate students involved will not only be exposed to leading-edge research but will also be part of making significant advances in hardware-software co-design.
CoDAASH's goal focuses in the understanding on the relationship between algorithms and hardware platform and how to jointly optimize the software and hardware, in order to achieve efficient implementations for materials science applications.
"This project is an excellent opportunity to combine software and hardware research for the benefit of grand challenge applications in materials science, chemistry and physics," Moore said.
Other institutions that will also participate in the CoDAASH project will be The Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Tennessee and the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of California at San Diego.
The project involved the contribution of co-principal investigators, , professor of computer science and Ramon Ravelo, Associate Professor of Physics who worked alongside lead principal investigator, Moore.
