Student Employment Guidelines
The student must be enrolled full-time in a degree or certificate program at The Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é of Texas at El Paso and can be employed part-time by the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é at any time during the period of enrollment.
The workload of a student employee may not exceed nineteen (hourly: 19 hours - biweekly) or twenty (20 hours/week - monthly), depending on the student job code assigned.
The following titles may be assigned to student employees based on their job duties:
Titles:
Undergraduate Titles (maximum of 19 or 20 hours)
- Work Study Student Employee – $7.25/hour (bi-weekly) must qualify for financial aid
- Undergraduate Assistant I – $8.00/hour (bi-weekly)
- Undergraduate Assistant II – $8.00/hour (bi-weekly)
- Undergraduate Teaching Assistant – Salaried, Academic Rate $15,600 salaried ($866.67/monthly for 20 hours)
- Undergraduate Research Assistant – Salaried, Academic Rate $15,600 salaried ($866.67/monthly for 20 hours)
Graduate (Masters) Titles (maximum of 20 hours, it they want to be appointed more than 20 hours, must obtain approval from Graduate School).
- Masters Assistant – $8.00/hour (bi-weekly)
- Masters Teaching Assistant – Salaried, Academic Rate $23,904 salaried ($1,328/monthly for 20 hours)
- Masters Research Assistant – Salaried, Academic Rate $23,904 salaried ($1,328/monthly for 20 hours)
- Masters Assistant Instructor – Salaried, Academic Rate $23,904 salaried ($1,328/monthly for 20 hours)

Graduate (Doctoral) Titles (maximum of 20 hours, if they want to be appointed more than 20 hours, must obtain approval from Graduate School).
- Doctoral Assistant – Salaried, Academic Rate $38,000 ($2,111.11/monthly for 20 hours) Doctoral Teaching Assistant– Salaried, Academic Rate $38,000 ($2,111.11/monthly for 20 hours)
- Doctoral Research Associate– Salaried, Academic Rate $38,000 ($2,111.11/monthly for 20 hours)
- Doctoral Assistant Instructor (Instructor of Record) Salaried, Academic Rate $38,000 ($2,111.11/monthly for 20 hours)

To initiate the appointments for any Work-Study student that has not previously worked or has a 6 months break of service:
- Must qualify for Financial Aid
- Must request Criminal
- Start of employment to End of Employment either May 31 or August 31
- Submit an Appointment Request through the Business Center
To initiate the appointments for any other student that has not previously worked or has a 6 months break of service:
- Must request Criminal background check – send the following information to your assigned business center specialist to initiate the request.

Your assigned specialist will provide you with the employee ID (600#) for the student once the criminal background check has cleared. Please use this information to submit an appointment request through the business center portal.
To initiate the appointments for any student that has worked and does not have a 6 months break of service submit through the Database when requested by the Business Center
- Terms:
- Fall: September 1 – January 15
- Spring: January 16 – May 31
- Summer I: June 1 – June 30
- Summer II: July 1 – July 31
- Long summer: June 1 – July 31
